Test 2 Psa 3

This is a diabetes PSA that is targeted at parents. It stresses that it is a family effort. It suggests a few guidelines a to help prevent children from getting Type 2 diabetes. It stresses that it is a family effort to keep your diet under control and the importance of exercise in preventing diabetes.. I don't think children will necessarily watch this PSA but I am sure Moms and some Dads would be influenced by it.

Test 2 PSA 2

This Psa is also for Diabetes. I believe its target audience is 30 year olds and up. It is aimed at Type 2 diabetes. They have used a well known song and familiar characters to get peoples attention. They gave facts and resources for their information. I am not sure if it will change people's behavior but it will certainly make them think about what they are eating. I do think it will reach it's target simply because it has an attention grabbing song.

Test 2 PSA 1

This video is intended to raise awareness about diabetes. I believe it will raise awareness. It's target audience is the young preteen to twenty somethings  .By using Nick Jonas they are reaching their target audience. This particular PSA mentions Type 1 Diabetes. I don't think this Psa would change health behavior.I do think it would get many people to sign up to pledge to stop diabetes. By doing this they are getting information out to their target audience.

How to find out if it is a good website or not

This article about how to evaluate a website comes from Cornell University.

It is broken down into five categories. Accuracy of websites, authority of web pages, objectivity of web pages, currency of web pages and Coverage.

Accuracy of websites - who wrote the page and can you get in contact with them.  Make sure the author leaves an email address or an address or phone number. Also make sure you know the difference between an author and a Webmaster. What is the purpose of the document and is the person qualified to write it.

Authority of Web Documents - It should be listed who published the document and it is separate from the Webmaster. .The author’s credentials and affiliations should be listed.  Check the document URL The information should be sited correctly in the bibliography or reference list.

Objectivity of Web Documents -What are the objects and goals of the document? Also the document should have details that can be checked. Check to see if the author has included personal opinions. There should not be any bias in the article. Ask why the article was written and for whom?

Currency of the webpage- Check when the webpage was made and when it was updated. Check the links to make sure they work and up to date. Make sure the content is current.

Coverage. The information should be free of any fees, browser technology, or special software requirements.

This site is a credible site. It gives you the author and a way to get a hold of them. The purpose of the documents are to educate the reader about diabetes. There are no personal opinions on the page just facts about the disease and how to combat it. There are no fees or soft ware requirements in order to use the website.

While this site appears to be credible it is actually an online magazine. It has articles which are opinions of the writers and has many items that are advertisements which benefits the website itself. The authors may or may not be experts. There is no way to check.

Writing a unit lesson plan

In this article the author describes her college experience with two professors and their styles of teaching. She explains she learned from both. With one professor she learned out of fear. With the other she learned because the professor enjoyed the experience so much. The professors attitude is what spurred her education. She then goes on the explain the 8 phases of writing a well thought out unit plan. She includes what each phase entails. http://www.ascd.org/publications/books/109051/chapters/Lesson-Plans-and-Unit-Plans@-The-Basis-for-Instruction.aspx

Writing a health lesson plan

I found this article about writing a health lesson plan. The article gives step by step instructions for
The 3 elements of health. The article shows you how to make a slide show for this topic. Each step is explained with why you should put this content on the slide. It states what the children will learn  and gives tips on what to include. It would be very easy to change the topic while still following the steps included. http://www.health-lesson-plans-teacher.com/threeelementsofhealth.html.

Being a recent diabetic I am always looking for ways to learn about and control my disease   I was on the American Diabetes websitehttp://www.diabetes.org/ / when I came upon a page for  Older Adults with Diabetes. It is for age 55 and older.I am 51 so I am close enough. It contains a section called the Older Outreach Program called the Senior Signature Series.http://www.diabetes.org/in-my-community/awareness-programs/older-adults/ It has many pamphlets you can download in several languages. They also provide a few facts about Diabetes and the older population. There is also a phone number to call for more information. 1(800)-DIABETES .You can also register for a half day informational event in your area if you are 65 and older. Once you call you will find out if there is an event in your area. I highly recommend if you are a diabetic you download the Living Healthy with Diabetes booklet for age 55 and up. It is a wealth of information about your sugar counts  and the importance of your diet and exercise.

I found an article about writing instructional goals and objectives that uses basically a rubric. It is easy to follow and to understand. .It is called Bloom's Taxonomy. The article is from Vanderbilt University Center for teaching. It states that Blooms Taxonomy is is framework for categorizing educational goals created in 1956 by Benjamin Bloom.
The framework consists of of six categories Knowledge,Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. Each category is describe as to what it entails. The article also has links to further help you understand the framework. It gives you a brief history of how Blooms Taxonomy was created and why. The end of the article tells you why you should use Blooms version. Here is their answer:
  1. Objectives (learning goals) are important to establish in a pedagogical interchange so that teachers and students alike understand the purpose of that interchange.
  2. Teachers can benefit from using frameworks to organize objectives because
  3. Organizing objectives helps to clarify objectives for themselves and for students.
  4. Having an organized set of objectives helps teachers to:
    • “plan and deliver appropriate instruction”;
    • “design valid assessment tasks and strategies”;and
    • “ensure that instruction and assessment are aligned with the objectives.

For visual learners such as myself they have given a pyramid example of Bloom's Taxonomy
